Editor-in-Chief

  JIANG Guibin (江桂斌)

JIANG Guibin is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Instrumental Analysis, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), an International Member of the US National Academy of Engineering, a Foreign Member of Academia Europaea, President of the China Association for Instrumental Analysis, and a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

His previous appointments include Vice Chairman of the Committee on Population, Resources and Environment of the 13th CPPCC National Committee; Director of the Research Center for Eco-Environmental Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences; and membership of the advisory group for the National 973 Program, the expert group for the national major research program on nanotechnology, the National Environmental Advisory Committee, and the National Expert Committee for Food Safety Risk Assessment.

He served as an Associate Editor of Environmental Science & Technology (ES&T) and is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Eco-Environment & Health (EE&H), published by Elsevier, and Environment & Health (E&H), published by the American Chemical Society (ACS).

Academician Jiang has long conducted research in environmental analytical chemistry, toxicology and health, covering chemical speciation, analytical instrumentation, environmental processes and toxicology, and the environmental applications and effects of nanomaterials. His sustained investigations have addressed analytical methods and environmental behavior of persistent organic pollutants (POPs), as well as the speciation of important organometallic pollutants. He has opened new research directions in the discovery of emerging environmental contaminants and the study of their toxic effects.

He led the establishment of the State Key Laboratory of Environmental Chemistry and Ecotoxicology, participated in China’s scientific expeditions to Antarctica and the Arctic, and developed the world’s first high-throughput, multifunctional Integrated Toxicology Analyzer. He also led the completion of the National Natural Science Foundation of China’s major research program on the toxicology and health effects of fine particulate matter, which established a new approach to pollution control guided by health effects.

As China’s earliest scientist to study emerging contaminants, he proposed theories and methods for their screening and helped advance research in this field from fundamental science to national strategies.

His honors include support from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Young Scientist Award, the Chang Jiang Scholars Achievement Award, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Outstanding Science and Technology Achievement Prize, the National Innovation Award, the ACS ES&T Outstanding Achievement Award, and three Second Prizes of the State Natural Science Award. He has published more than 1,800 papers in SCI-indexed journals and 28 monographs in Chinese and English, with an h-index of 138 and approximately 80,000 citations.
